Nous avons le plaisir de vous inviter à contribuer à notre colloque international sur les religions
africaines. Cette initiative vise à explorer et à comprendre la richesse et la diversité des
traditions religieuses présentes sur le continent africain, ainsi que leur importance dans les
sociétés contemporaines.

Contexte et Objectifs
Les religions africaines sont parmi les plus anciennes et les plus riches au monde, imprégnant
profondément les cultures, les sociétés et les identités individuelles à travers le continent.
Pourtant, malgré leur importance historique et culturelle, ces traditions sont souvent mal
comprises ou négligées dans les études religieuses globales.
Notre colloque vise à combler cette lacune en offrant une plateforme d’échange et de
dialogue où les chercheurs peuvent partager leurs recherches, leurs découvertes et leurs
perspectives sur les religions africaines. Nous aspirons à :
1. Explorer les diverses pratiques rituelles, croyances et cosmologies présentes dans les
religions africaines.
2. Examiner l’impact des religions africaines sur les sociétés contemporaines, y compris
leur influence sur la politique, l’éducation, et les questions sociales.
3. Analyser les intersections entre les religions africaines et d’autres traditions
religieuses, ainsi que leur évolution à travers l’histoire et la mondialisation.
4. Promouvoir une compréhension plus profonde et plus respectueuse des traditions
religieuses africaines, en mettant en lumière leur pertinence et leur dynamisme dans
le monde d’aujourd’hui.

les religions africaines à soumettre des résumés d’interventions (300 mots maximum) avant
la date limite indiquée. Les présentations peuvent prendre la forme de communications
individuelles, de tables rondes, d’ateliers, ou d’autres formats innovants.

Researchers, scholars, and enthusiasts of religious studies,
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to our international colloquium on African religions.
This initiative aims to explore and understand the richness and diversity of religious traditions
found on the African continent, as well as their significance in contemporary societies.

Context and Objectives
African religions are among the oldest and richest in the world, deeply ingrained in cultures,
societies, and individual identities across the continent. Yet, despite their historical and
cultural importance, these traditions are often misunderstood or overlooked in global
religious studies.
Our colloquium aims to bridge this gap by providing a platform for exchange and dialogue
where researchers can share their research, discoveries, and perspectives on African religions.
We aspire to:
1. Explore the diverse ritual practices, beliefs, and cosmologies present in African
religions.
2. Examine the impact of African religions on contemporary societies, including their
influence on politics, education, and social issues.
3. Analyze the intersections between African religions and other religious traditions, as
well as their evolution through history and globalization.
4. Promote a deeper and more respectful understanding of African religious traditions,
highlighting their relevance and dynamism in today’s world.

PRÉPARATION DE L’ORGANISATION DU COLLOQUE DE 2026
INTRODUCTION
Chers frères,
Permettez-moi de vous rappeler que lors de notre dernière réunion des Régents et Coordinateurs
des Études, l’idée d’organiser un colloque avait germé. Les premiers contours de cette idée
étaient de ne pas laisser inexploités les thèmes délimités par Fr. Akin Odiko, OP, mon
prédécesseur – thèmes destinés à donner lieu à la publication d’un livre par l’IAOP.
Nous avons également souhaité que, à l’issue du colloque, les présentations soient sélectionnées
pour publication, afin de redonner vie à l’idée initiale de publication de livre associée aux thèmes
proposés par Fr. Akin, comme je l’ai déjà mentionné.
Organiser un colloque peut être une tâche complexe. C’est pourquoi nous sommes conviés à
examiner ensemble dès maintenant comment créer un événement réussi.
Les points ci-dessous me semblent indispensables (et peuvent être complétés lors de nos
échanges) pour définir ce qu’il faut faire et comment le faire. Ces grandes lignes nous
permettront de progresser systématiquement dans l’organisation de ce colloque, prévu pour
coïncider avec le prochain sommet de l’IAOP en 2026 (le lieu spécifique sera déterminé lors du
mini-sommet de l’IAOP en mars 2025). Je vous invite à les lire attentivement et à les enrichir si
nécessaire, en vue d’une réunion riche en idées constructives qui nous permettront de franchir
une nouvelle étape de ce projet.

A. Élaboration d’un programme préliminaire
1. Définir l’objectif et la portée du colloque : Nous avons à déterminer le sujet principal du
colloque, les thèmes à explorer, et les objectifs que nous souhaitons atteindre.
2. Constituer un comité organisateur : Nous avons à rassembler une équipe compétente
pour planifier et coordonner l’événement. Et nous devons nous assurer que chaque
membre du comité a des responsabilités claires et une communication efficace.
3. Choisir une date et un lieu : Ceci revient au Mini-Sommet de mars 2025 comme tâche.
Cependant, nous pouvons faire des propositions que le Mini-Sommet pourra examiner.
Nous devons veiller à sélectionner des dates qui conviennent aux participants cibles et
trouver un lieu approprié qui offre les installations nécessaires pour le nombre attendu
de participants. [Une question à examiner dans ce sens est la suivante : Combien de
participants envisageons-nous pour le Colloque ?]
4. Élaborer un budget : Nous avons à faire une estimation des coûts associés à la location
de l’espace, la nourriture et les rafraîchissements, les frais de déplacement des
conférenciers, la promotion de l’événement, et la publication ultérieure des Actes du
Colloque. Nous aurons à nous assurer auprès du socius pour l’Afrique et le syndic de
l’IAOP d’avoir un financement adéquat pour couvrir ces dépenses.

5. Sélectionner les intervenants : Nous aurons à identifier les conférenciers à inviter et les
intervenants potentiels. Ceci doit être fait le plus rapidement possible afin qu’un contact
soit fait à temps pour vérifier leur disponibilité et leur intérêt à participer. (Ma suggestion
est que nous privilégions les frères capables de nos différentes entités en tenant compte
aussi des langues -Anglais et Français, de préférence).
B. Assurer le suivi
6. Constitution de comités : pour le suivi de l’organisation préliminaire (contacts à prendre,
collecte des informations des participants, etc.) ; pour le déroulement de l’événement
(les détails logistiques tels que la restauration, l’hébergement des conférenciers, la
technologie audiovisuelle, les supports visuels, les impressions de documents, etc.) et
pour l’après colloque (recueillir les commentaires des participants, évaluation de
l’événement, et remerciements des intervenants pour leur contribution).

GROUNDWORK FOR THE ORGANIZATION OF THE 2026 COLLOQUIUM
INTRODUCTION

Dear Friars,
Allow me to remind you that during our last meeting of the Regents and Coordinators of Studies,
the idea of organizing a colloquium was conceived. The initial outlines of this idea were to not
leave unexplored the themes delineated by Fr. Akin Odiko, OP, my predecessor – themes intended
to result in the publication of a book by the IAOP.
We also wished that, at the end of the colloquium, the presentations would be selected for
publication, in order to breathe new life into the original idea of a book publication associated with
the themes proposed by Fr. Akin, as I have already mentioned.
Organizing a colloquium can be a complex task. That is why we are invited to examine together
from now on how to create a successful event.
The points below seem indispensable to me (and can be supplemented during our discussions) to
define what needs to be done and how to do it. These guidelines will allow us to systematically
progress in organizing this colloquium, which is scheduled to coincide with the next IAOP summit
in 2026 (the specific location to be determined during the IAOP mini-summit in March 2025). I
invite you to read them attentively and to enrich them if necessary, with a view to a meeting rich
in constructive ideas that will allow us to take the next step in this project.

A. Development of a preliminary program
1. Define the objective and scope of the colloquium: We need to determine the main subject
of the colloquium, the themes to explore, and the objectives we wish to achieve.

2. Form an organizing committee: We need to assemble a competent team to plan and
coordinate the event. We must ensure that each committee member has clear
responsibilities and effective communication.
3. Choose a date and location: This is a task for the Mini-Summit of March 2025. However,
we can make proposals for the Mini-Summit to consider. We need to select dates that are
convenient for the target participants and find an appropriate venue that offers the
necessary facilities for the expected number of participants. [A question to consider in this
regard is: How many participants do we envision for the Colloquium?]
4. Develop a budget: We need to estimate the costs associated with renting the space, food
and refreshments, speaker travel expenses, event promotion, and the subsequent
publication of the Colloquium Proceedings. We must ensure with the socius for Africa and
the IAOP syndic that adequate funding is available to cover these expenses.

5. Select the speakers: We need to identify the speakers to invite and potential contributors.
This must be done as soon as possible so that contact can be made in time to check their
availability and interest in participating. (My suggestion is to prioritize capable brothers
from our various entities, taking into account both English and French languages,
preferably).

B. Ensure follow-up
6. Establish committees: For the follow-up of preliminary organization (contacts to be made,
collection of participant information, etc.); for the event execution (logistical details such as
catering, accommodation for speakers, audiovisual technology, visual aids, document printing,
etc.); and for post-colloquium (gathering participant feedback, event evaluation, and thanking the
speakers for their contributions).
