SUMMARY:Inscripción abierta: III Encuentro Universitario Tomista en Barcelona\, España
\nPUST-Angelicum Thomistic Institute link

SUMMARY:How Is Revealed Knowledge Justified? Aquinas on Faith and Reason
DESCRIPTION:How Is Revealed Knowledge Justified? Aquinas on Faith and Reason\nOxford University \nThe Thomistic Institute at Oxford University presents by Prof. Mats Wahlberg of Umeå University titled “How Is Revealed Knowledge Justified? Aquinas on Faith and Reason.” \nMonday\, June 5 \n7:30 PM \nBlackfriars \nThis lecture is free and open to the public. \nAbout the Topic: \nIn this talk\, I will relate Aquinas’s view of faith to contemporary perspectives in analytic philosophy about epistemic justification and the epistemological status of testimony. The main question I will address is how we can be justified in believing things on the basis of divine testimony\, mediated through Scripture and Tradition. \nAbout the Speaker: \nMats Wahlberg is associate professor of systematic theology at Umeå University\, Sweden. He has written two books: Reshaping Natural Theology (Palgrave Macmillan\, 2012) and Revelation as Testimony (Eerdmans\, 2014)\, as well as many scholarly articles. His research about the problem of evil has received funding from the John Templeton Foundation. In 2021\, he was the visiting Aquinas Chair at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (the Angelicum) in Rome. \nThomistic Institute talk link \n

SUMMARY:“Our God’s Brother” by Karol Wojtyła – Theatrical Performance
DESCRIPTION:“Our God’s Brother” by Karol Wojtyła – Theatrical Performance\nOn 18 May\, the 103rd anniversary of the birth of John Paul II\, we cordially invite you to the premiere of Karol Wojtyła’s “Our God’s Brother”\, directed by Jarosław Killian and performed by Angelicum students. \n“Our God’s Brother” is a play written by Karol Wojtyła in the years 1944-1950. SUMMARY:JP2 Lectures // Rev. Franciszek Longchamps de Bérier: “Hominum causa: ‘All Law is Established for Men’s Sake’ and the Dispute on the Essence of Man”
DESCRIPTION:JP2 Lectures // Rev. Franciszek Longchamps de Bérier: “Hominum causa: ‘All Law is Established for Men’s Sake’ and the Dispute on the Essence of Man”\nOn Thursday\, May 18\, 2023\, we invite you to the JP2 Lecture\, which will be given by Rev. Franciszek Longchamps de Bérier\, Professor of Law at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. The lecture entitled “Hominum causa: ‘All Law is Established for Men’s Sake’ and the Dispute on the Essence of Man” will begin at 4:30 p.m. (CET) in Aula 11 at the Angelicum. \nLawyers are specially trained in providing legal services. They are necessarily aware that the regulations that the law has recourse to are in fact only tools\, and that the law is actually designed to promote certain values and it is these values which find their expression in the law. It was pointedly noted in 1991 that\, “as history demonstrates\, a democracy without values easily turns into open or thinly-disguised totalitarianism”. The experience of the enormous change in political systems which took place in late twentieth-century Europe led the author of this observation to further comment: “Authentic democracy is possible only in a state ruled by law\, and on the basis of a correct conception of the human person”. The first part of this last citation is best known and often repeated. It is the second\, however\, that touches the main problem of our times\, i.e. anthropology. How should one respect human beings as bearers of rights? Is there any correct anthropology\, the only correct anthropology to be used as a basis for law? \nPlease read more… \n

\nINFORMATIONS: \nRevue thomiste \nTriple Centenaire Thomas d’Aquin \nACTA: centenairethomasdaquin@gmail.com \nPUST-Angelicum Thomistic Institute link

DESCRIPTION:Communitas 2023- Are ‘Just Wars’ Possible?\nWar is one of humanity’s greatest tragedies. Its outbreak in Ukraine has made us realize just how far we are from being free of deadly conflicts\, and how deeply all of us are entangled in them\, even if they are being fought thousands of kilometers from our homes. This reality highlights our need to form precise thoughts and actions which will promote efforts to attain a just peace in our times. \nRegister HERE \nDownload the  Communitas \nPUST-Angelicum Interdisciplinary Conference link

SUMMARY:Stepping with Science to Sainthood: Nicolaus Steno’s Conversion and His Unity of Life
DESCRIPTION:Angelicum Thomistic Institute – Science & Religion Online Series “The Forgotten History of Science and Faith”\nStepping with Science to Sainthood: Nicolaus Steno’s Conversion and His Unity of Life\nNuno Castel-Branco\nThe Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies\n4 May 2023\n7:00 PM (Rome) / 6:00 PM (London) / 1:00 PM (New York)\nLanguage: English \nIn 1667\, at the peak of his scientific career\, the Danish anatomist Nicolaus Steno (1638-1686)\nconverted to Catholicism. Since then\, much has been written about it. His Protestant friends and\nmodern historians alike found this conversion perplexing. On the other hand\, his Florentine\nfriends and Catholic apologetics rejoiced and used Steno’s conversion as an argumentative tool.\nYet\, most accounts fail to contextualize Steno’s conversion in light of his research interests in\nanatomy and\, later on\, in geology. Did Steno convert only to please the Medici family\, his new\npatrons? Did he experience a religious experience that suddenly made him want to convert? Or\ndoes his conversion\, instead\, follow gradually from his pursuit of truth in science? In this lecture\,\nI explain that Steno’s conversion happened due to a particular moment in his scientific career in\nwhich he was obsessed with finding rigorous scientific knowledge about the world. This search\nfor certainty\, in combination with new friendships\, made him leap into the Catholic Church. \nJoin us\, as we rediscover the forgotten history of Science and Faith. \nClick Here to Register\nPUST-Angelicum Thomistic Institute Conference link \n

However\, historical disagreements also exist about original righteousness\, the effects of sin\, and the natures of justification and sanctification. This conference seeks to bring together contemporary Catholic and reformed theologians of the highest qualifications to discuss creatively the existence convergences and ongoing relational differences between reformed and Roman Catholic interpretations of the Christian revelation. The aim is to model a genuine ecumenical dialogue marked by the recognition of historical differences and the acception of them in the midst of the search for common truths. All are welcome to attend. Sponsored by the Agape McDonald Foundation. \nRegistration: https://forms.gle/Fe66BBf1A7r5W8197 \n2023.04 Creation Nature and Grace (PDF poster)
