SUMMARY:Religion et religiosité à la loupe de la technologie moderne (Religion and Religiosity under the Scrutiny of Modern Technology)
DESCRIPTION:Religion et religiosité à la loupe de la technologie moderne (Religion and Religiosity under the Scrutiny of Modern Technology) \nby: Prof. Dr. Ricardo LUFRANI (Université Anglicom en Italie) \nApril 9\, 2022 \nACADEMIE DE BAGDAD POUR LES SCIENCES HUMAINE \nPourquoi une académie des sciences humaines ? \nACADEMIE DE BAGDAD Fr \nBAGHDAD ACADEMY FOR HUMAN SCIENCES \nConference on Christianity and Technology \n

SUMMARY:Next Steps in the Jewish-Catholic Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:Next Steps in the Jewish-Catholic Dialogue\n4 April 2022 – 17:00\nLocation: Angelicum – Aula Minor\, and live-streamed\nLanguage: English and Italian\n\n\nPlease join us for “Next Steps in the Jewish-Catholic Dialogue\,” a pair of lectures co-sponsored by the Angelicum Thomistic Institute and the Cardinal Bea Center for Judaic Studies (Gregorian). In the last half century\, the dialogue between Jews and Catholics has advanced in many unpredictable ways\, but has still left many open questions to explore. \nThe event is divided into two evenings. The first conference on Monday\, April 4 at the Angelicum will present a Catholic rereading of the latest document drawn up in the rabbinical field on the relationship between Jews and Christians followed by a Jewish response. A kosher reception will follow in the Sala delle Collone. Please register here to attend in person or via livestream. Registration is recommended\, but not required. \nThe second evening\, Tuesday\, April 5 at the Gregorian\, will focus on a dialogue about the Land Promise\, a theme rarely touched upon due to its sensitive political and historical nature and equally essential both for its central importance for the People of Israel and for the Hebrew Bible. To attend this lecture in person\, you must register by 12:00 Monday\, April 4 at unigr.it. Registration is mandatory for in person attendance.\n \n\n\nAll lectures will be available in both English and Italian via simultaneous translation both in person and online. \nProgramme for April 4 at the Angelicum:\nFrom Jerusalem to Rome: Catholic Reflections on a Document by Orthodox Jewish Rabbis – H.E. Bruno Forte\, Metropolitan Archbishop of Chieti-Vasto \nResponse – Prof. Karma Ben-Johanan\, Humboldt University\, Berlin \nReception to follow. \nClick here to register for Day 1 (April 4) at the Angelicum.\nClick here to register for Day 2 (April 5) at the Gregorian (mandatory registration by 12:00\, April 4) \nPlease ensure that you register for each lecture individually. Registration for the event at the Angelicum does not constitute registration for the event at the Gregorian and vice-versa. \nhttps://angelicum.it/thomistic-institute/event/jewish-catholic-dialogue/?lang=en

SUMMARY:Counsels of Imperfection: Thinking Through Catholic Social Teaching
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nCounsels of Imperfection: Thinking Through Catholic Social Teaching by Edward Hadas\nFor more than a century\, the teaching authority of the Catholic Church has attempted to walk along with the modern world\, criticizing what is bad and praising what is good. Counsels of Imperfection described the current state of that fairly bumpy journey. \nThe book starts with an introduction to ever-changing modernity and the unchanging Christian understanding of human nature and society. Then it moves to areas of concern for the Social Teaching: a) economic issues\, including a careful delineation of the Catholic response\, past and present\, to socialism and capitalism; b) government\, including Church and State\, war and peace\, and quick takes on democracy\, human rights\, the welfare state\, crimes and punishments (including the death penalty)\, anti-Semitism\, and migration; c) ecology\, including a discussion of the human role in creation and an enthusiastic analysis of Francis’s “technocratic paradigm”; d) family teaching\, which presents the social aspects of the Church’s sexual teaching; and e) a historical overview and the ambiguous Catholic appreciation of the modern idea of progress. \nFor each topic\, Counsels of Imperfection provides biblical\, historical and a broad philosophical background. Thomas Aquinas appears often\, but so does G. W. F Hegel. The goal is not only to explain what the Church really says\, but also how it got to its current position and who it is arguing with. In the spirit of a doctrine that is always in development\, Counsels of Imperfection points out both strong-points and imperfections in the teaching. \nThe book’s author\, Edward Hadas is a Research Fellow at Blackfriars Hall\, Oxford. His book Counsels of Imperfections: Thinking Through Catholic Social Teaching will be published in the autumn by Catholic University of America Press. He is also a financial journalist who writes regularly for Reuters Breakingviews. \nThe online event is free and open to all. Registration is required. \nContact:\nLas Casas Institute\nlascasas@bfriars.ox.ac.uk \n [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
