SUMMARY:E-SÉMINAIRE : PHILOSOPHIE DE L’ANIMAL (E-SEMINAR : PHILOSOPHY OF THE ANIMAL)
DESCRIPTION:E-séminaire de Philosophie\nNicolas Tenaillon\n17 April to 12 June\, 2023 \nDESCRIPTION\nTo know the stakes of the question of the animal today\, in particular the recent discoveries of ethology\, the place which one gives to the animal in the process of hominization\, the new rights which one grants to him since one recognizes his sensitivity and his suffering\, the morals which that induces in our behavior with regard to the alive ones\, the relevance (or not) of the movements “vegan”\, of the parties “animalists”\, of the antispeciesism\, the concern caused by the reduction of the biodiversity. \nOBJECTIVES\n1. To show that humans cannot do without animals for reasons that are not only useful (food\, work\, research) but also metaphysical.\n2. To know how to distinguish conceptually what makes the specificity of the animal\, the difficulty of classifications\, to become aware of the problem of biodiversity and the arguments of veganism\, anti-speciesism\, animalism while keeping a critical sense with regard to certain theories.\n3. To show that a theology of the animal remains to be written. \nRegistration fee:  350\,00 € \nFor more information\, you may open the DOMUNI Universitas main website link: http://www.domuni.eu \nWebsite Seminar Link:  https://www.domuni.eu/fr/formations/e-seminaire-philosophie-de-lanimal/ \n  \n

SUMMARY:E-SÉMINAIRE : KANT ET LE PRIMAT DU DEVOIR (E-SEMINAR: KANT AND THE PRIMACY OF DUTY)
DESCRIPTION:E-SÉMINAIRE : KANT ET LE PRIMAT DU DEVOIR (E-SEMINAR: KANT AND THE PRIMACY OF DUTY)\nDATE OF THE SEMINAR:  April 17 to June 12\, 2023 \nCourse Code: SEM87\nProfessor: Dr Matthieu Dubost \nPRESENTATION OF THE SEMINAR:\nThe approach proposed here will be articulated in four steps. If Kantian thought has often been criticized\, it has often been done superficially and mainly by opposing it to the needs of subjectivity and the sensitive disappointments to which such a morality gave rise. Without neglecting these remarks\, it is undoubtedly important first to note what in his doctrine can be accepted as necessary elements for any valid ethics. This reading will then have to distinguish the weak criticisms from those to which the Kantian edifice resists badly\, and above all to note in Kant himself the tensions and weaknesses caused by the primacy of duty. This will give rise to a negative or critical demonstration of the insufficiency of Kantian duty as an exclusive basis for ethics. This will be our second step. \nOur interest in more contemporary critiques will essentially lie in their more unitary conception of the person\, a difficulty on which E. Kant stumbled. By aiming at a more dualistic anthropology\, we will continue the critique started in the second stage while giving ourselves the means to go towards another morality. \nIt is then\, in a fourth and final step\, that we will take into account an “ethics of the conatus”\, that of Ricoeur. We will discuss his ability to positively demonstrate the validity of an ethics of desire\, or teleological ethics\, which does not\, however\, claim to be an anthropology of desire. It will be necessary to discern what in him is a valid and argued answer to Kantian difficulties\, from what is perhaps more properly a pre-philosophical choice with the weaknesses that this implies. This reading will also have to take into account the way in which one can situate duty within an ethics where it is not primary. \nTHE STAGES OF THE SEMINAR:\nStage 1: Kant – Foundations of the Metaphysics of Morals\nStage 2: Kant – “Dialectic of Pure Practical Reason”\, Critique of Practical Reason\nStage 3: Hegel and Schiller\nStep 4: Ricoeur \nRegistration fee:  350\,00 € \nFor more information\, you may open the DOMUNI Universitas main website link: http://www.domuni.eu \nWebsite Seminar Link:  https://www.domuni.eu/fr/formations/diplomes/kant-et-le-primat-du-devoir/

SUMMARY:E-SÉMINAIRE : LA THÉOLOGIE TRINITAIRE (E-SEMINAR: TRINITARIAN THEOLOGY)
DESCRIPTION:E-SÉMINAIRE : LA THÉOLOGIE TRINITAIRE (E-SEMINAR: TRINITARIAN THEOLOGY)\nDu 17 avril au 12 juin 2023 \nCode du cours: SEM030 \nProfesseur : Ma Jacques Fournier\nCourse Code: SEM030 \nTRINITARIAN THEOLOGY IN THE GOSPEL OF JOHN AND THE NEW TESTAMENT\nFaith in the One God runs through the whole Bible (Dt 6\,4-9; 2Sm 7\,22; 1R 8\,60; Is 44\,6-8; 45\,5-6.14\,22; 48\,10-12…). It is of course taken up by Jesus himself (Mk 12:28-34 and parallels) and the authors of the New Testament (Jn 5:44; 17:3; Rom 3:30; 16:27; Gal 3:20; 1Cor 8:4; 1Tm 1:17; 2:3b-6)… \nBut on the mountain of the Transfiguration\, the light of the Son dazzled St. John\, the voice of the Father reassured him and in his Gospel\, he will lead us into the Mystery of this eternal Relationship that was manifested in Jesus\, the Christ\, between the Son of God and his Father… And such is the heart of his discovery\, exposed from the first line of his work: “the Word”\, the Son\, the Word of the Father\, “is God”\, and before all “beginning”\, he is “near God” the Father\, turned “towards” Him\, living in relationship with Him… We will see to what extent our Nicene Constantinopolitan Creed is present in this Gospel of John\, in his Letters but also in the works of St. Luke and St. Paul. \nWith them\, we will also discover the foundations of the Revelation of the Holy Spirit\, also true God\, and we will see\, especially with St. John\, what is his work today towards every man of good will… \nWITH FOLLOW-UP AND VALIDATION\nRegistration fee: 350\,00 € \nFor more information\, you may open the DOMUNI Universitas main website link:   http://www.domuni.eu \nSeminar Website link: https://www.domuni.eu/fr/formations/e-seminaire-la-theologie-trinitaire/ \n  \n

SUMMARY:E-SEMINAR: LEARNING TO DWELL
DESCRIPTION:E-SEMINAR: LEARNING TO DWELL\nby Jaco Kruger\nFrom 17th April to 12th June 2023 \nCourse code: SEM84 \nDESCRIPTION\nThe fundamental thesis underlying this seminar is that there exists a kind of fittingness – even stronger\, an affinity – between philosophy and ecology that invites us to think of these two disciplines together and in relation. Philosophy is occupied with the “big questions” of life and existence; its approach is often speculative and generalizing. Philosophy is the ongoing attempt to see the biggest picture\, and to integrate all of experience into such a big picture. In this sense the Greek root word from which the word ecology stems is very appropriate: oikos – the house\, the household\, the dwelling place. Philosophy is about “learning to dwell\,” to use a formulation of Martin Heidegger. What does it mean to be at home in the world? How should humans be at home in the world? And how should we live in our common home? Ecology\, for its part\, has since the middle of the 20th century as a discipline moved closer and closer to the life sciences and the natural sciences. But the fundamental philosophical presuppositions of ecology remain an open question. And the environmental catastrophe that is slowly unfolding in the 21st century affirms the intuition that the worldviews and philosophical presuppositions of the late-capitalist world must urgently be revisited. Making use of resources from process philosophy and from the work of Martin Heidegger\, this seminar contributes to the discussion surrounding the characteristics of an integral ecology (Laudato Sí) by attempting an ecological introduction to philosophy. \nOBJECTIVES\nTo introduce philosophy as the human search for a home in the world\nTo highlight the philosophical roots of the current ecological crisis\nTo contribute to the philosophical foundations of integral ecology as called for in the papal encyclical\, Laudato Sí \nFor more information\, you may open the DOMUNI Universitas main website link:   http://www.domuni.eu \nSeminar Website link: https://www.domuni.eu/en/learning/e-seminar-learning-to-dwell/

SUMMARY:Stepping with Science to Sainthood: Nicolaus Steno’s Conversion and His Unity of Life
DESCRIPTION:Angelicum Thomistic Institute – Science & Religion Online Series “The Forgotten History of Science and Faith”\nStepping with Science to Sainthood: Nicolaus Steno’s Conversion and His Unity of Life\nNuno Castel-Branco\nThe Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies\n4 May 2023\n7:00 PM (Rome) / 6:00 PM (London) / 1:00 PM (New York)\nLanguage: English \nIn 1667\, at the peak of his scientific career\, the Danish anatomist Nicolaus Steno (1638-1686)\nconverted to Catholicism. Since then\, much has been written about it. His Protestant friends and\nmodern historians alike found this conversion perplexing. On the other hand\, his Florentine\nfriends and Catholic apologetics rejoiced and used Steno’s conversion as an argumentative tool.\nYet\, most accounts fail to contextualize Steno’s conversion in light of his research interests in\nanatomy and\, later on\, in geology. Did Steno convert only to please the Medici family\, his new\npatrons? Did he experience a religious experience that suddenly made him want to convert? Or\ndoes his conversion\, instead\, follow gradually from his pursuit of truth in science? In this lecture\,\nI explain that Steno’s conversion happened due to a particular moment in his scientific career in\nwhich he was obsessed with finding rigorous scientific knowledge about the world. This search\nfor certainty\, in combination with new friendships\, made him leap into the Catholic Church. \nJoin us\, as we rediscover the forgotten history of Science and Faith. \nClick Here to Register\nPUST-Angelicum Thomistic Institute Conference link \n
